Miso Soup Buffet – Open Post

The Miso Soup loving tandem behind TechMiso thought it would be fun to start a new weekly “open post” feature strictly aimed at our community. The idea is to write one article a week which has no intent whatsoever other than to allow you, our beloved participants, to post comments on whatever your hearts desire.

Do you have something cool or insightful to share? Would you like to make a suggestion to the TechMiso crew? Interested in trolling? Need to get in contact with us for a sponsorship or advertising deal? The floor is open to you so please feel free to post anything you would like, so long as it is legal and within reason.

The only other things I would like to mention real quick are the removal of Lijit from the search area of the sidebar and the inclusion of a “Featured iPhone App” added to the sidebar. We removed Lijit for a couple reasons: it looked severely out of place and more importantly, it did not add any value to TechMiso. You have to admit, the widget was pretty damn ugly, right?

As for the “Featured iPhone App” area, my partner in crime Rich came up with the idea because he felt with the iPhone being so popular it would be a smart idea to help point our Miso Soup loving audience towards apps you may otherwise not already know about. Taking the idea one step further, we also decided to offer developers the ability to sponsor TechMiso for one week periods. The sponsorship is such that an app is featured for a full seven days, displaying a screenshot of the app accompanied by a warm and cozy TechMiso write-up. Get in touch with us if you are interested.

Other than that, please have at it in the comments. Please stay within reason and feel free to comment on whatever it is you would like to converse about.

Wouldn't it be a better idea to use some sort of discussion system for that, such as a simplified forum rather than having to comment it on an article ?

We're not wanting to run a forum, which can be a lot of work in and of itself. The idea here is to merely allow people to post whatever they want in a single article and potentially be a catalyst for discussions. It's just a technique to try and jump start article commenting. Know what I mean?

Yes I do, but to me it seems rather useless to make a blog entry so that users can have a healthy discussion. In my opinion it would be better to make some sort of mini forum. Unless each discussion is based on the blog post, for example you would write an article about poverty and then everybody should only place comments based on that subject.

That is the generally accepted, traditional way of doing things for sure. We're going for the non-traditional to change things up, so we can hopefully spur conversation in unique ways.

If nothing else, it's definitely worth a shot for now.

“You have to admit, the widget was pretty damn ugly, right?”

Yes.

I like the “retweet” function you guys have added, but I don't think I like its location.

Perhaps move it down and to the right of the Rate This function.

Moving it so far down in the article almost would make it useless, no?

Maybe. When I finish an article, if I like it I dont want to have to scroll back up to share it.

I see most sharing links towards the bottom.

Fair point and one that makes sense. I'll see about adding or moving it to the bottom.
