Oh My God, There’s a Girl in Here!
When Scott first tweeted that he was looking for a writer for TechMiso, it took me a few days to tell him that I was interested simply because I wasn’t sure if I was. Could I get myself back into the writing game? Did I have enough time between a full-time job and studying for a professional paper? Then I smacked myself in the face and told myself to stop whining. From then on, it took over a week of mulling over what I wanted to write about. It didn’t help that he basically gave me carte blanche to write about whatever I wanted. I bugged people on Twitter, on mIRC, over wine, and basically anywhere and everywhere IRL and online.
The result is that I’ve decided to write about general and popular technology from a woman’s point of view. There are various reasons for this, ranging from the fact that there aren’t many female writers on the topic that don’t dwell on motherhood, how to please your man/get by without your man, sex techniques, but mostly it’s because I’m a woman so I don’t have to think too much to get a woman’s point of view.
And just like a woman, I’d like to set things straight up front: my opinion is relevant, and while yours may be just as relevant, I have no obligation to take it into account. In other words, I wear the pants in this relationship. My posts aren’t likely to contain extensive discussions or tirades on monthly tides, sex, giving birth or interior decoration. It will contain general opinions, theories and discussions on anything and everything under the ‘tech’ umbrella, and maybe some that are slightly outside the realm when I have something really awesome to rant about (but I will relate it back to the tech world somehow).
Be warned, it may also contain some biases as to the superiority of women. If you can’t take a joke then I’m sure you can find someone selling a sense of humour on eBay.
Now that I’ve laid out the ground rules, look out for more articles by me. It will be good, you may need a cigarette after, but let’s get this straight: no cuddling, and I expect you to be gone when I wake up in the morning. Excuse me while I make myself comfortable and introduce some cushions, coasters and tea cosies to the TechMiso wonderland.
Welcome aboard Haslina! We are looking forward to your women-centric articles; a female point of view is, often times, missing from the tech conversation. So it should be refreshing to see a unique perspective for a change.
Best of luck!
Welcome! Excited to have you with us and as Scott said, it'll be refreshing to have your point of view on TechMiso. Cheers, Haslina!
Congratulations Haslina. :)
I was wondering what you were going to write about—I'm sure I suggested this in IRC! I'll be looking forward to what you come up with in the future and I'm sure Scott and Richard wont mind me coming over to stay with the rest of our friends and causing a disturbance, heheh.
That might be one of the most entertaining introductory posts I have ever read. Good stuff and looking forward to your writing :-)
Dude, you're a girl? Oh man… anyway, I love your writing style and can't wait to read some of your articles in the not too distant future.
I like girls.
Hm…This would add the well needed amount of sex appeal :P
Welcome! A woman's voice is needed in the tech-blogging sector; there are too few women who write.
Amy
Great post! Congratulations…it's good to see you!
Ohnoes, I think I've set a pretty high bar for myself. Hope I can continue knocking out entertaining posts. O_O But thanks, guys. I feel super welcome now :)
wait… since when are you a *woman*?
