Health For Geeks

Free green and red Crab Apples in bowl creative commonsWhy, you might ask, would anyone who frequents TechMiso want to read articles about health?  Health in today’s world full of processed food and sedentary lifestyles should be everyone’s concern, especially those who spend a major portion of their days sitting in front of a computer.

As an ex-overweight IT professional I have seen way too many good techs succumb to the epidemic of the expanded midsection and the inevitable decline in general health.  We simply cannot afford to keep losing the valuble experience of these dedicated individuals to the impending heart attack or stroke.

Just as you might monitor the health of your operating systems, you also need to monitor your own health.  If you are in a hospital or, God forbid, dead, who is going to keep the network running?

And just as you continually test your knowledge of new computer systems through training courses, you need to keep testing your body through exercise.  This is the key to optimum health.  The human body was designed to move, not sit still in front of a computer screen all day.  There are exercises that you can do while waiting for that software update or reboot.  There are things you can do while just sitting at your desk.

Another huge piece of the health puzzle is what you put into your body.  I believe the world’s food system is corrupt and it is dragging us down into a quagmire of malnutrition, compromised immune systems, chemical dependency, and eventually a slow, painful death.  All you have to do is check the latest declining health statistics and you will surely ask yourself, “What is going on here, and how can we stop it?”

As someone with 10+ years of research and experience with various health conditions, I look forward to presenting more effective ways to combat and reverse the many  maladies that ail us, most of which are completely curable.  And of course, any criticism and discussion is very welcome.  I hope we can all learn something that will improve our overall health, as well as learn about any gadgets that will make living a healthy life easier for everyone.

I'm eating ham & cheese on Italian bread with mayo, drinking a 100% fruit mix and sitting straight up at my desk — plowing through email.

Well said. Here's to geek health! Besides, we (geeks) need to stay fit if we're going to take over the world some day.

Let's see…had greasy sausage, potatoes, red and green peppers, and onions for breakfast this morning (at least it was olive oil) and am drinking a Monster Assault right now. Yep…my heart attack is right around the corner–in about 10-15 years I think if family history sticks true.

I need to make sure that Jark knows CPR or at least has a dolly available to get my heavy *** over to the elevator after I croak so I don't stink up the place while I decay.

Now you got jark wondering who you are. As for CPR, doubtful my friend – we'll just slide you in the AC room with the rest of the junk and hope you don't stink the entire building up.

If you are interested in living a healthy lifestyle, check out Crossfit. It's definitely not for everyone though. I would say that's only because people are inherently lazy and don’t like to challenge themselves. Give it a go though. It will change your life.

I think people need a more personal approach when it comes to doctors. I know i have a doctor which takes care of my problems(prosolution) and he is so nice. He always knows me by name, he's friendly and i gladly attent every meeting.

Well, it is true that we live in a world with more maladies and diseases than ever, and it seems to me that the more we put drugs into our bodies, the more sick we become. The best way to manage your health is to prevent, not to cure. The fattening things are not necessarily the most damaging ones, everything that that has preservatives is fatal on the long term. Today we use generic drugs for everything, when we should think on a daily basis of what can affect us.
