Sadly, this sounds like the sort of idea that could take hold in our time. Let us hope that Misguided politicians and the far right do not decide this is some kind of banner to carry, because I agree with you - a terrible idea, at least for the reasoning stated. If someone was propsing a brave new Internet for reasons of architecture and or new content delivery, there might be a reason to listen.

Gawds, not this idea. It's just that for some reason people can't seem to realize that the Internet is not just some toy or console cartridge, it ISN'T 'Plug N' Play'. Perhaps it's similar to boat safety, you need a life preserver to be *worn* before it actually is useful. There are far too many leaky boats with joyriding people in them, and the lifepreservers of old are starting to decompose.

That there isn't more of a sense of 'This is a valuable tool, don't break it or use it improperly'. Perhaps it's people's views of PCs that needs to change. Unlike the radio, microwave or VCR, there are actually other people who use it.

Wash your hands, check your oil and ALWAYS look for patches.

Wow, glad I'm not the only one who remembers Markoff from back in the day.

I, too, remember when Markoff was making jackass accusations against Mitnick and whatnot. He had absolutely no idea what he was writing methinks. In many cases, he still has no clue to this day.

Markoff has always been a joke to me. Ever since his articles about Kevin Mitnick (wow thats long ago), I've never been able to take what the guy says seriously.

He writes articles without citing sources, like you pointed out Scott, and hopes that the fear tactics he plays will win over writing actual news.

The Internet is fine. Great post, keep em coming.
