TechMiso Comment System Migrated to Disqus
Some time early Monday afternoon Tokyo time, we migrated the TechMiso commenting system to Disqus from IntenseDebate. Not a single comment was lost during the migration. None. Zero! We backup each and every comment locally in addition to publishing the comment with the third-party commenting service for just this very reason.
If you had left a comment with the old system, rest assured it is still posted here on TechMiso! About the only feature lost during the migration is the threading on the small number of comments left on-site. All comments have been synchronized to Disqus, but if you had replied directly to a comment, your response will no longer display as it was previously. While Disqus does support threaded commenting, it is unable to recreate the threads from IntenseDebate.
For those of you who have commented previously, and see your comments on the site now, you can easily “claim” those comments. Merely hover over one of your old comments until the “popup” displays. Click the “unverified” link to claim your comments with your shiny new Disqus account. Simple, quick, painless and effective way to reconnect with all your comments. Nice, eh?
Why did we migrate to Disqus? We took this action for a few reasons, but mostly because IntenseDebate was causing speed issues and does not support the feature set we require for TechMiso. Disqus is quite responsive and more than accommodating. Additionally, by using Disqus, we can offer the following nifty features:
- Ability to leave a Seesmic video comment.
- Leave an anonymous comment (standard).
- Login with your Disqus account.
- Login with your Facebook account.
- Comment on the article’s FriendFeed post and have that comment syndicated to TechMiso.
- Comment directly to FriendFeed from the article here on TechMiso.
Disqus has a thriving community, so this is an excellent opportunity to get more exposure for TechMiso as well. After all, the more eyes reading the site the better!
As usual, if you have any suggestions for the site feel free to holler. We apologize for the migration and any potential perceived problems caused by our move. Rest assured we are doing this for the future of TechMiso, and not just on a whim!
Thanks for the support. Cheers!
