First Time Mac Users: You Do Not Need to Install Windows

AppleBeing one of a very small handful of Mac users at work I am inundated with Apple related questions. The majority of the inquiries I field are from people who just recently purchased a Mac, like as in a couple days ago recent! One of the first queries I almost always receive is, “how do I install Windows XP?” I hate to break it to you Mac n00b: you do not need to install Windows. OS X does everything Windows does but better.

The iPhone Has Changed Mobile Computing Forever

Jesus Phone MockupIt was a cold and rainy day in the summer of 2008 when I drove to the local SoftBank shop on a mission to be one of the few lucky souls to snatch an iPhone on the first full day of sales in Japan. I was really jazzed about finally getting my hands on an iPhone because the device was nothing short of beautiful. Even with fairly advanced mobile phones widespread in Japan, nothing could have prepared me for the way the iPhone ended up changing my mobile computing life.

The Mac Experience

Mac OS XA quick couple of months have passed since I migrated from a Microsoft Windows environment to Apple’s OS X — the experience so far has turned out to be nothing shy of rapturous.

I’m still grounded in Microsoft at work, but have no complaints doing so — it keeps me unbiased.

I’ll say this about Mac-

Apple Condones Murdering Infants, Realizes It Screwed Up and Pulls App from App Store

Baby ShakerA few short weeks ago we wrote about the App Store being one huge joke after a simple update to Tweetie was mysteriously rejected for ostensible violations of Apple’s App Store policies. It should come as no surprise to see the geniuses at Apple displaying another stunning example of their utter incompetence to properly manage the App Store yet again.

Baby Shaker, an application designed to simulate shaking a crying baby, somehow made it through the approval process and landed smack dab in the middle of the App Store and controversy. The point of the app is to make the baby stop crying by shaking your iPhone really hard. If successful, the baby stops crying and two red X’s are placed over the baby’s eyes, seemingly to imply the baby has died!

Apple Responds to Microsoft Accusation that Macs are Too CoolMicrosoft recently launched one of their most bizarre advertising campaigns to date, placing Apple squarely in their crosshairs but miserably failing to make a coherent and compelling argument against the hip computer company. Microsoft’s peculiar attempt to paint the Apple Mac lineup as both too expensive and too cool defies logic because it lacks persuasive execution. As if things were not odd enough, Apple has sought fit to respond to the beleaguered campaign with some interesting words.

iPhone Is The Killer Mobile Social Networking Device

Posted by Scott Jarkoff in Articles

Facebook on iPhoneThe iPhone is the killer social networking device when mobile. The ability to easily and comfortably access email as well as a variety of popular social networking sites using native iPhone applications places the device squarely in the center of the social media triangle. While there are plenty of additional uses for the device, it almost seems pointless – why bother owning an iPhone if your usage goal does not involve some form of social networking?

Is Anti-Virus Software Required On Mac OS X?

Posted by Scott Jarkoff in Articles

Computer VirusThe hoopla surrounding the Conficker worm has taken the computer security world by storm. Headlines predict doom and gloom on April 1 because researchers believe attackers will activate the worm, gaining control of millions of zombie personal computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system. Conficker is a moot point with both a patched Windows and anti-virus software. What about those who have opted for Apple computers running the OS X operating system? Everyone knows anti-virus software is obligatory on Windows but is it even worth the hassle on OS X?

iPhone OS PreviewApple’s announcement and presentation of the forthcoming iPhone OS 3.0 features was far more evolutionary than revolutionary. There was really no earth-shattering reveal – in reality, many of the features Apple displayed should have been included in the iPhone OS at the 2.0 mark. Nonetheless, Apple definitely has us salivating for iPhone OS 3.0 because of a few features we previously discussed and some we had not thought of at all. Here we roundup the new features in iPhone OS 3.0 we predicted as well as some additional thoughts.
