China blacks out Foursquare in yet another blow to freedom on the internet. techblog86 reports:

I’d think a major player in the world economy, like China, could implement methods [other than censorship] for harnessing their citizens’ data. Methods that could balance the country’s national security while allowing it’s people unfettered access to the web.

The amount of data that could be garnered by the Chinese government is potentially enormous.

If China really wanted a thorough snapshot on each of their citizens, don’t you think they’d collect more data rather than restrict it.

Pay us Because We SuckOver the past decades a lot has been changed, from the first colour TV to mobile phones, and from the internet to mind control devices. Of course, not everything has changed, especially the news papers sticking to their old traditions.

Looking at how many other services, objects and other things evolved over the past decades, especially if you look at how many services embraced the internet, it’s shocking to see the newspapers haven’t done this in a way they should. They still rely heavily on printed forms of news. Not that this means it’s the end of the world, but it’s getting a bit out of control if they fail to improve their medium and want us to pay for it.

We Do Not Need A New Internet

The worlds networkThere has been a lot of talk over the last couple days since John Markoff published his New York Times article asking the world if a new Internet is necessary. I read the article in its entirety a number of times, both backwards, forwards and sideways, and can not for the life of me can not find any compelling reason for architecting a new internet. It seems, Markoff is either smoking crack or has no true understanding of the Internet.
