mediaXchange 2009 Flops On Attendance
Mar 20th
With a stellar lineup of vendors and an A-list of high profile speakers, mediaXchange deserved to see a better attendance record last week at the Mandalay in Las Vegas.
Now a marriage between Newspaper Association of America’s (NAA) marketing and newspaper conventions, last week’s Vegas-based mediaXchange promised to carry a new flame in igniting the industry’s need for digital innovation and redirection.
Although the fire was there, very few lined up to roast marshmallows by it.
Microsoft Comeback Or – Nail In The Coffin
Feb 7th
If you purchased a Vista upgrade or ordered a PC with Vista pre-installed, you probably felt the pain that goes along with a severely maimed operating system. Then only to have Microsoft abandon it two years later — in favor of its clone — Windows 7.
Is it over for Microsoft’s OS market dominance? Has Apple scored enough market share during Vista’s follies to get their OSX foot in the mainstream door? Then there’s Ubuntu — did they too [along with Apple] bite into user share for a run on the Microsoft bank?
New College Graduate? Forced Career Change? Quest For A Better Salary In Rough Times?
Jan 28th
Not a super glorious career move, but one that can set you up for a ‘foot in the door’ moment with big upward potential — consider the idea — of jumping head first into an IT Helpdesk position. (The bigger the company, the more room to grow, the better.)
If you’re asking yourself why you should start out at the [so-called] bottom of the IT food chain – here’s why:
Not only will you gain valuable experience in how the belly of an IT organization works, you have the chance to feel customer frustration first hand. Inherently this gives you a sharper and more wiser vantage point when climbing the IT support ladder — keeping you in the loop on how key solutions get implemented and ones that [if you tactfully propose to the right person] will win you a promotion.
Recession And Technology: Killing The Print Media Industry One-Job-At-A-Time
Jan 14th
‘Print is dead’ — This cliche phrase echos through the print industry, and has now for a few years. There is no doubt that print [specifically newsprint] could follow the way of the dinosaur — a more likely scenario now with a worldwide recession in full swing.
With a large number of media organizations facing threats and ultimatums to drop print altogether, will print eventually disappear? Not likely. For some, the news is grim. For others, their star is rising.
Macworld 2009 – Apple’s Subliminal Message
Jan 8th
Macworld this year — a major marketing bonanza for Apple — was clearly not the hype event Apple typically puts on for the tongue wagging Mac enthusiast.
With no Steve Jobs at the Macworld helm and too many long-winded presentations (almost 25 minutes were spent selling the new face recognition feature in iPhoto) well, one had to wonder: Has Apple sent us a message on the current status of their company.
